Polyend Synth: My Studio Experience with a Versatile and Innovative Instrument
If you’re a music producer looking for an instrument that combines versatility, sound quality, and innovative design, the Polyend Synth might be the answer to your needs. After testing it in the studio, I can confidently say that this synthesizer is a true gem for anyone who loves exploring new frontiers in sound design. One of the aspects that struck me the most about the Polyend Synth is its unique design. With three separate engines (blue, yellow, and purple), you can play and modulate three synthesizers simultaneously. This allows you to create complex, layered sound textures, perfect for ambient, techno, or experimental productions. During a studio session, I used this feature to craft a rich, immersive atmosphere by combining a deep bass, an arpeggiated sequence, and a granular pad. The result? A dynamic track full of character.

Eight Synthesis Engines: From Subtractive to Granular
The Polyend Synth offers eight synthesis engines, ranging from classic subtractive synthesis to FM, granular synthesis, and physical modeling. This means you can create virtually any sound you can imagine. During one session, I experimented with the granular engine by loading a vocal sample via the SD card and transforming it into an ethereal, ever-evolving texture. The result was stunning, especially due to the synth’s smooth and precise sample handling.
One of the Polyend Synth’s strengths is its scene system. Each scene saves not only the sounds but also the sequencer, effects, and mixer settings. This allows you to quickly switch from one idea to another, maintaining your creative flow. In the studio, I created several scenes for a techno track: one for the drop, one for the breakdown, and one for the outro. The transitions between scenes were seamless and added a layer of professionalism to my project. Additionally, the layout is fully customizable. You can choose between different configurations (horizontal, vertical, or mixed), and although custom layouts aren’t currently available, I hope this feature will be added in the future.
Sequencer and Arpeggiator: Perfect for Performances
The built-in sequencer is simple yet effective, ideal for creating rhythmic patterns or melodies on the fly. During a jam session, I used the arpeggiator to create a hypnotic sequence, which I then modulated in real-time using the macro controls. These controls are another standout feature: you can map up to five parameters per control, making your performances dynamic and engaging.
The Polyend Synth includes an effects section with modulation, delay, and reverb. I particularly enjoyed the ping-pong delay and plate reverb, which I used to add depth and space to my sounds. The mixer section is intuitive and allows you to balance volumes without distorting the signal, ensuring a clean and professional mix.
Design and Usability: An Ergonomic Gem
The Polyend Synth also stands out for its ergonomic design and user-friendly interface. The buttons and controls are logically arranged, making it easy to access all features, even during a live performance. The velocity-sensitive and aftertouch-enabled touchpad adds an extra layer of expressiveness, allowing you to modulate sounds dynamically and creatively. Additionally, it comes with a wide range of connections, including MIDI, USB, and CV/Gate, making it compatible with other hardware and software instruments.

The Polyend Synth is an instrument that combines power, flexibility, and ease of use. Whether you’re a sound designer searching for new textures or a performer looking for a versatile live instrument, this synth has everything you need. My studio experience was extremely positive: I created unique sounds, explored new possibilities, and, most importantly, had fun. If you’re looking for a synthesizer that inspires you and pushes you to experiment, the Polyend Synth is undoubtedly a choice worth considering. I can’t wait to see what I’ll create with this instrument in my next studio sessions!
